Observation Time!

Wednesday, January 24, 2018
Ma'am Adora wasn't returned yet, so, i observe Mega's cooperating teacher class session, Ma'am Elsa. She is a science teacher, at that time, she was teaching chemistry about reduction-oxidation. She is a really nice person, and the students seems to like her. Every session duration in SMU Junior High School is one hour per subject, so the teacher have to be creative to teach the material in a short time. Unlike in Indonesia, in one session, we spend time like three hours or two.

"...Put your hands together...let us pray!"

Prepararation

Everyone...! Sit by your group.

Presentation and practice.

still working on it.

"Okay!, who is finished already? show me your work!"

Some students who was brave enough to explain their work.
"I have another solution!"

Another discussion.

What i like from Ma'am Elsa, to get feedback from the students, she always said "thumbs up?" or "thumbs down?" i think it's pretty clear, if it's a "thumbs up" then the students replied by showing their thumb upward if the students understand. Otherwise, the student will showing their thumb downward if they don't understand. Also, in the end of the session, Ma'am Elsa brought some emojis and asked some student to come front and pick the emoji that resembles what they think about the session, is it fun, confusing, cool and etc...

Ma'am Elsa instructed three students to pick the emoji.
He thinks that the session was cool.

I don't know about this one, was she embarrassed or amazed?
Was he shocked?
That's all the session from Ma'am Elsa at that time, the class was ended by a prayer and then another teacher came into the class. Being friendly during the class is important, so the students will not afraid and the interaction with the students will be more easier.

I sat on the observer's seat, in Mabait class.

My observation with Ma'am Adora was started on Monday in Sci&Tech Grade 8 Mabait Class, there was only one session at that day. Ma'am Adora introduced me with the students, they are nice, and friendly as the class name "Mabait" in Tagalog means "Friendly" or "Kind". Ma'am Adora told me to sat on the observer chair on the back of the class. Nothing much happened at that day, there was only a quiz. Ma'am Adora read the questions and the students wrote their answer in the paper.
After the quiz was finished, Ma'am Adora instruct the students to exchange the paper with another classmate, then she read the answer for the quiz, and the students check the answer of their friends quiz paper. The session ended, and Ma'am Adora told me to meet her in faculty lounge.

She explained few things to know about the students, how to deal with them, and then asked my lesson plan. She told me to come back at 1.00 PM to get the my lesson plan back, she had to check it and put notes on what to be fixed and some suggestions. 9.30 AM, the i decided to return to the dorm, duha' pray and took some rest and then went back to the school at 1.00 PM. The result? well, there was a lot of things need to be fixed from my lesson plan, but mostly just minor things like capital, using semicolon at the end of the objectives and some guide question in the presentation. I went back to the dorm after received my lesson plan, and then revise it. I was wondering, what will happen on my very first teaching session, will it success? only god knows.(C/H)

A New Day.

Monday, January 22, 2018 5.47 AM, the sky was clear, i can barely saw the hills that surrounds Nueva Vizcaya, and the sun slowly rise from behind the hills plus the voice of the birds singing, how lucky i am, my dorm window view was heading to east, i can enjoy the beautiful view of sunrise between the hills everyday. I took a bath and wear my batik dress and alma mater, of course, don't forget the DSLR. All of my dormmate already prepared and we went to the campus, Saint Mary's University. Dr. Liberty told us to meet her at pavilion on 7.00 AM.  We passed the security guard, they already know that we are there for the students exchange program, actually, everyone who wants to go inside of the campus must tap their id card to the counter so the gate can be opened, or at least show the id to the guards, it was quite strict, but we don't have to go through the security check because you know.... students exchange, what a privilege. Later, we meet Dr. Matet near to the ...
